🏝️ USING AT OR NEAR THE BEACH?  To prevent rusting, we recommend upgrading to stainless steel or brass ‼️

**NOW AVAILABLE** - ACETAL HEAVY DUTY QUICK RELEASE BUCKLE

Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as acetal, polyacetal, and polyformaldehyde, is an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts that require high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability. POM is characterized by its high strength, hardness and rigidity to -40 °C.  BREAK LOAD: 16mm = 50kg, 25mm = 95kg

Lighter than the metal options and also won't rust - our stainless quick release collars will come with this buckle as we are unable to get the quick release buckle in stainless.  If you would like to change your quick release buckle to plastic please select that option in your order - only available in 16mm and 25mm.

NICKLE/CHROME PLATED
Material: Zinc die casting
Surface finish: Nickel plated/Chrome Plated

BLACK
Material: Steel
Surface finish: Matte black

ROSEGOLD
Material: Steel
Surface finish: Rose gold
A note about Rose Gold from the supplier:
The rose gold finish on rivets and hardware is a surface treatment that can wear off over time, especially with exposure to friction or moisture. This is not uncommon and does not indicate a defect but normal wear.  However, this applies to all coated products. For a more durable finish, we recommend products with a solid base material or a different coating if aesthetics are a priority.

NEOCHROME
Material: Zinc die casting
Surface finish: Titan Neo-Chrome

BRASS/BRASS PLATED
Unfortunately, at this time, we have been unable to source all solid brass products, so our quick release buckles are brass plated while our clips, D rings, Tri Glides and belt buckles are solid brass.  Our rivets are both options.  If you order a quick release collar it will be all solid brass.
TIP: Brass products can oxidize and darken as a result. This is not a defect, only a natural characteristic of brass.  If the brass hardware is rubbed intensely, the gold finish may wear away and a silver layer may appear on the surface. This does not mean that the rivet is not brass. Even if the color changes, the quality of the rivet remains the same
BRASS Material: Brass sand casting
Surface finish: Polished
BRASS PLATED QUICK RELEASE BUCKLES Material: Zinc die casting
Surface finish: Brass plated

Zinc die casting with a brass-plated finish is not inherently rust-proof. Here's why:

  1. Zinc Die Casting: Zinc itself is corrosion-resistant, which helps protect against rust, but it is not entirely rust-proof, especially if exposed to harsh environments for extended periods.

  2. Brass Plating: Brass is also corrosion-resistant but can tarnish or corrode over time, especially in wet or salty conditions. The plating can wear off, exposing the underlying zinc, which may corrode if not properly protected.

In summary, while this material combination offers some resistance to rust, it is not fully rust-proof. For applications where rust resistance is crucial, materials like stainless steel or brass (solid, not just plated) might be better options.

STAINLESS STEEL
We're talking about a material that's not afraid of water, mud or salt. Yes, it's stainless steel - the material that says, "Rust? I don't know." And why should you care? Because it means your leashes and collars will be reliable and maintenance-free for years to come. You will be able to enjoy Max on the beach or Lady in the bush without worrying about their leash.
And what about the high price? In short, quality has its price. An investment in stainless steel is an investment in worry-free quality that will last forever. So, yes, you could go the cheaper route and choose something else, but then you would miss out on the joy of the longevity that comes with stainless steel.
Material: Stainless steel
Surface finish: Polished

CLIPS

AS OF DECEMBER 2025 WE NOW OFFER THESE CLIPS IN ADDITION TO OUR STANDARD CLIPS...

ALUMINIUM CARABINER (TWIST LOCK)

Aluminum carabiner 86 mm long with exceptional load capacity of 400 kg. Made from material used in the aerospace industry. This makes it extremely resistant to corrosion and wear, while maintaining its surprising lightness – it weighs only 23 g.

Ideal for making strong dog leashes, it will also find its place when camping, hiking or attaching tools to work belts. Although the carabiner has a considerable load capacity, it is not suitable for securing people. Lock type: Twist-Lock.

Material: Aluminium alloy (7075)
Surface finish: Anodized
Weight: 23 g
Breaking load: 400 kg

ALUMINIUM TRIGGER SNAP

Are you looking for a reliable snap for leashes but don't want to invest in those "superhero" aluminium variants? This multifunctional release snap (also known as frog clip or buckle) with a swivel is exactly what you need. Its compact size of 75 mm makes it the ideal part to user for leashes of small and medium dog breeds – no cumbersome, overly massive pieces that would just add weight. It is designed to offer sufficient strength for everyday walks, nature trips, or regular training, yet priced to remain affordable, which is always a nice bonus. It's simply the "just right" snap – not too big, not too expensive, but still strong enough for every adventure.

With this snap, your leashes will be not only functional, but also lightweight and compact, so no more unnecessary burden on smaller dogs. The swivel also ensures that the leash won't tend to twist, which every dog owner will appreciate. Ideal for all manufacturers looking for a simple, reliable, and practical solution for their products, whether the leashes are for small or medium breeds. A snap that won't break the bank but offers exactly what you need.

Material: Aluminium
Surface finish: Not Specified
Weight: 34 g

FAQS from the BioThane® website...

What is BioThane®?

BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. At our pet shop online nz, you’ll find durable polyester webbing with TPU or PVC coating that’s waterproof, easy to clean, and built to last.

Why is BioThane® better than leather?

BioThane® is more durable, cleanable, stronger and easier to maintain. It is also readily available in different colors.

Is BioThane made in the USA?

Yes, BioThane® is manufactured in our only plant located in North Ridgeville, Ohio in the USA.

Does synthetic hurt the animals?

Not any more than leather! As long as you size the end product correctly it should never hurt your animal.

Will it smell if the animal gets wet?

No, BioThane® is stinkproof.

How long will it last?

Under normal use, BioThane® will long outlast leather and nylon.

Will the color fade?

The opaque colors tend to hold color significantly longer than the fluorescent colors. In general, the deeper the shade of the hue, the longer it will last.

Will it still work in cold weather?

Yes. BioThane remains flexible and durable in cold weather.

Does it get sticky or tacky?

Under normal use it will not get sticky or tacky. It can get sticky or tacky if it is exposed to certain chemicals like DEET.

Will the material cause hot spots?

The material will only cause hot spots if the animal is not fitted properly with the correct size product.

How do I clean my collar/lead?

Warm water and soap usually work well. You also can dab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol.

Product going stiff/brittle/cracking

BioThane Beta is made with PVC. Plasticisers are put in PVC to make it soft for our material and things like blood bags and toys.  Otherwise , the PVC is hard, like PVC piping, as an example.  If the material comes in contact with some chemicals like the chemicals on some flee collars, or even the oils in some dog’s skin, it can cause some plasticisers that make the PVC soft to become hard. With all of the Beta we make, it is a small amount that this happens to. But it certainly can happen.
It’s certainly not desirable, but 2 things to note:
1) The coating can crack, but it won’t flake off when this happens.
2) The webbing inside is perfectly intact, so the integrity of the collar is still there. Nothing has weakened and the webbing will still be protected. If it’s happening with the same dog over and over, a Granite or Gold series collar would be recommended. Those are TPU and won’t be affected. But they also won’t be as soft like Beta.

It is very rare compared to the amount of BioThane sold.
In order to prevent this, users should:
1) Avoid using harsh chemicals
2) Don’t use with flea collars
3) Clean the collar if the dog rolls in filth.
Those are the best ways to prevent this from happening.
